Find a Childbirth Educator
What is a Childbirth Educator?
A childbirth educator is an expert in the field of birth. She's teaches childbirth education classes. Classes include information about pregnancy, birth, postpartum time and/or breastfeeding. Many educators also offer education about newborns. Childbirth educators are in private practice or employed by hospitals or birthing facilities.
Childbirth Educators and Birth Philosophies
As with doulas, birth philosophies with childbirth educators can range dramatically from educators who teach women how to have an unmedicated birth and educators who don’t personally care what kind of birth a woman has, as long as it’s as good as possible.
Most childbirth educators are certified and certification organizations include ICEA, CAPPA, The Bradley Method, Lamaze International, and Hypnobirthing.
Classes taught in hospitals or birthing facilities tend to have a small charge whereas a private class where the educator comes to your house is usually a little more expensive.
