Lactation professionals are women trained in lactation or breastfeeding. Some of them are educators who help women before they have their babies, while others can help with breastfeeding issues or even get breastfeeding off to a good start.
An IBCLC is a lactation professional who can assist with breastfeeding problems or simply get breastfeeding off to a good start. She's certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners and is the ultimate breastfeeding expert.
A CLE or certified lactation educator is someone trained to teach breastfeeding classes to expectant couples. They often work for hospitals, birthing facilities or women's and children's organizations. Some may teach private in-home classes for couples that can't find breastfeeding classes.
A lactation counselor (CLC) is similar to an IBCLC but they're not board certified. CLCs also teach breastfeeding classes and counsel breastfeeding mothers having breastfeeding issues.
